CF Moto 650 TK First Impressions.
I picked up my new made in China toy yesterday around 10 am Yesterday and immediately tried on the jacket from CF Moto which was part of the deal.
Ohhhh China is a cold country and i live in Cairns which is not a cold country so out comes the padded lining.
Inside was another layer of plastic wet weather protection that won’t come out.
Between 10 and 12 on a early autumn morning is not the time for this.
So slipping on the white helmet and Dri Rider gloves I extorted from the dealer to sweeten the deal, off I toddled carefully heading north.
First corner was my first problem, bloody brakes gears and mirrors are all in a different location and my feet flailed forward instinctively looking for them. 15 years on Cruisers have taken their toll.
Ok all sorted and away along the Bruce highway toward Palm Cove. Fuel gauge showing less than a quarter tank. Good one dealer. Poor customer service that.
Along the 100 zone and around the roundabouts it becomes apparent that this is a sweet little bike.
handles well, stops quickly, smooth through the gears and after getting used to the normal riding position, comfortable enough except for the bony points on my bum.
Old man’s disease of no bum padding. Solved today by the purchase of an Air Hawk seat cushion.
The small screen is perfectly positioned for me with air on my face and no buffeting of the helmet.
The bikes sounds acceptable and is obviously a smallish twin but there is plenty left after 110 kms/hr.
Gear changes are a little iffy at the moment as i am used to the clunky Harley box but that is improving.
And accelerates nicely in all gears
Top box, Air Hawk seat cushion and chain lube added today.
So first two rides have left a positive impression and I will only improve my feel for the bike with practice.
A longer ride around the Tablelands when the sky clears is on the cards and that will be without the Chinese jacket which I will save for invading South Korea in winter.
Pros.
Dirt cheap. $8000 for a 650 Tourer drive away with 3 years warranty. And a free jacket.
Runs well, handles well, goes like the clappers is my impression
Cons.
Plastic work is a little cheap looking especially the glove compartments
Indicator switch a feeble looking arrangement and no self cancelling indicators
The side stand was too short and now sports a club foot extension that works.
It has a chain. Long time since I had the issue of chain care and lubrication.
No centre stand, trip meter or clock.
