I just made this video.
It is filmed over a period of six years. It is nearly all filmed/photo'd in Chimpee market. My daughter lives there. It is not a tourist area and you won't see an farenghies (white-fella) there except me.
The video is about the most beautiful food in the world, Thai street food. I have played and had a ball with colour and texture. Most of the film/photos are taken around 05:00 am as the market opens.
I hope you like it, tho I admit now, it will not be to everyone's taste.
We see a sick man, no one to care for him, so still in his pyjamas he takes a motorbike-taxi down to the market and buys his steamed fresh corn-cob for brekky.
The fried chicken man, the best in the world, charcoals the chickens within millimetres of traffic brushing his backside.
The butcher, who supplies the market with pork had slick grey hair when I first photo'd him. Now his hair is grey. He works at his stall carving up pigs, seven days a week from 05:00 am till midday.
He sharpens his knife on an ancient stone. He steels it on an upturned stainless dish, held to the bench top by a huge congealed lump of pork fat. He only has the one knife, the one steel. He can steel at the rate of 9 strokes per second. he doesn't even bother looking as he does it. He has incredible skill. We are friends, tho he speaks no english, I no Thai.
If your interested how others live, in the ordinary everyday banality of life .. their little ways, their little habits, then you will like this video. The Thai people stole the food of heaven and they sell it on the streets.
This is my daughter's market. It is the best spot in Bangkok, tho no tourist has ever seen it.

Clever little film production. I wonder how safe to a visitor that food would be to consume? it looks good except for the crickets and maggots. They would need a good sauce to go with them

Hi Mate,
It is perfectly safe, I eat it all the time. My first stop from the airport is to the chicken man. Everything is either on stainless steel, aluminium, or Tamarind wood blocks. These three things, especially the Tamarind blocks are natural disinfectants. The tamarind block oils are antiseptic. No one gets sick .. you can eat lavishly and enjoy. I bring the Tamarind blocks home, I have three or four of them.
Despite appearances the Thais are the cleanest people I know. They can shower up to 3-4 times a day. They loathe BO, it is especially offensive in their way of things. Many Ferenghis (us) have BO and I amuse myself on the sky-train watching the Thais move away from a Ferenghi when he gets on. heheee. The Thais are very polite and they never show their distaste. That would be considered loss of face.
