429. Shed Online Posting.
by Bunyip Brown, 3 September, 2014. # 429.
On the website ‘The Shed Online’, just lately, I’ve been reading,
The stuff old codgers post, their anxieties aired for all to read,
Their inner fears and doubts scattered to the winds,
Is it anonymity that provides the courage that they’re needing ?
I suppose all of us have doubts and misgivings at times,
About the choices open to us and which path to take ?
Did your conscience kick in at times like this ?
Ignoring common sense, was that one of your crimes ?
Every man among us has a story to tell, some good, some bad,
Whilst the notable among us provide fertile ground for biographies,
Auto-biographies are strictly the province of the egotistical,
And none of either for you (or me) and this is sad.
We’ve run the course of life for better or for worse,
Some of us achieved,
Some reluctant to put their heads above the rest,
Some were Rip Van Winkles, lost to man and beast, forever cursed.
The editor calls for comment, down at the bottom of the page
This is when the Gurus come out of hiding,
Their souls bared not at all, but advice and opinion on tap.
I’m left to wonder, what credentials have they got, is every one a sage ?
This business of getting old is mostly the pits, I find it is distressing.
Circumstances contrive to make you see things you couldn’t see before,
Things like concepts and ideas formerly dismissed as not relevant,
When it was all “go”, navel gazing wasn’t on the agenda, ’twas missing.
Perhaps it’s the way of the world at large
Some achieving, some watching, some wondering,
If there’s a hole in the fence though, some goat will find it,
The other goats will follow and out they’ll charge !
