Sometimes the early worm gets the bird especially if he wakes him up. This is available for swapping in miniartswap.proboards.com/Colin Griffin's Gallery.

All these fit into an envelope? Yes they are a little less than 6 inches by 4 inches then laminated and they will mail as a letter. One per envelope, of course.

Attachment DeletedI tried something different with this mini to learn how to do fine lines in minis. I had a go at making a scratch board then used acrylic to paint the sea and the sky. While it was still wet I scratched through to the black underneath as an experiment and scratched out a ghosty sail boat. I will have another fiddle when it dries. It is 6x4 inches mini swap size. This method can do fine black lines (see masts) for minis I want to laminate it when it is finished. So far so good.except the cat stood on the top left corner

LOL, best to sit the cat down and explain that the cat paw has been done to death by the kiddies jammy market. Surely the cat will understand if you explain it properly. chuckle

I am off to bowls today and a meeting tonight but if I get a chance I might try some more tricks making a combined scratch board and acrylic painting. There is a definite advantage getting fine lines in mini art by scribing through the paint so the black shows.
I am making the support/board by laminating black paper, then doing my painting on top of the lamination and where I want black I scrape away the paint. I hope to laminate it again when I am finished so long term peeling paint will not be an issue.

What name do you want you to use for your Gallery it does not have to be a log in name. When I swap or collect I am always after something typical of the artist and I try to get a little bit of a bio from them to go in the album.
It is tough getting things started but swapping is sooo goood if you are an experienced artist or a newby I hope to get some posts from a couple of "off beat" artists they have said they will be posting. Eddie Boggs is one of them and he is a naive artist and a great character, I remember he once made a paper mache Guitar and it worked. He sells his work many collectors like naive art.

How about I use Turtle for the gallery name? What is the run down with the miniartswap site - do I get invited to join or just join? I had a quick look in there and see some artists and their art.

How about I use Turtle for the gallery name? What is the run down with the miniartswap site - do I get invited to join or just join? I had a quick look in there and see some artists and their art. I set it up and I (I am Admin) tried to keep it simple so all you do is join and I will set up your Gallery. You start a new thread in your gallery for each picture. When you see something you would like to swap with contact the other artist via email. When it has been swapped, type in that has been swapped or it is unavailable for swapping. At some stage we might clean out all the swapped threads but that seems a long way away at the mo. You know how to post photos on Proboards but for any lurkers benefit what I do is use the "Add Attachment" feature and if the photo is too big I "Open with Paint" go to the "Resize Button" then change 100% to 30%. When you close "Paint" say yes to "save". I will set up your gallery now. I am sure you will have a lot of fun. PS Loretta is keen to swap I already have a lot of her great work, she is in California (I think) meanwhile I am knocking out a few to get some swaps in there. You might find some worthwhile hints under "General" e.g Biro is good for line- work on minis. I will now set up as a Turtle Gallery I can change the name for you anytime. Thanks for participating.

Very talented, M. I am hopeless at people portraits. Anyone can do portraits if you use a process. Mistake free and with no rubbing out of the initial sketch You will be surprised how good you can be. Sometimes tho a likeness is bloody near impossible. There are two problems with getting a likeness from a photo A) People choose photos of themselves that they like - and they can be a poor "likeness". B) Photos without angled light (eg flash from the front) do not have shadow to make features stand out. (eg nose size and shape) Here are 2 ways using process to do a portrait1) If you do them the cheats way it is only attention to detail. miniartswap.proboards.com/thread/13/charcoal-portraits-cheats2) The other way keeps mistakes off your final drawing for a clean result. The other way is to work on tracing paper (or baking paper) with a soft pencil and do not rub-out mistakes, you will see why later. Head orientation changes dimensions. With pencil (6B) start with two construction lines make a cross that gives the angle of the eyes and the nose. Sketch in the two eyes one eye width apart. Measure and place all features as ratios of an eye width do not rub anything out. Double check by checking the negatives = the spaces between features as well as the size of features also check vertical drops (is the corner of the mouth directly below the part the eye or where the point of the chin should be.) What you do next is make your drawing into carbon paper. On the back of the drawing use the side of your 6B pencil lead to scribble over the back. Now use your drawing like carbon paper to transfer your drawn image onto your final paper. You should now have a feint line drawing to help you draw the final drawing - with attention to detail you can fix any faults you can find using the eye width as the standard length for measurement. HintsCharcoal is the easiest see miniartswap.proboards.com/thread/13/charcoal-portraits-cheatsYou can use calipers as found in lawn bowls measures to check measurements or simply cut a strip of paper to an eye width or multiples of eye width.

Yep, I use the cheats way too, and am hopeless at freehand drawing first up. I have done them and they came out okay, but the time involved and closeness to the subject leaves a bit to be desired. I agree about the side lighting - it makes for better finished work.
Yes, I think there is a likeness to Rebel Wilson in your art, M - but I have only seen a pic of her in a side-on photo.
