The ‘Fishing Trip’, it’s a furphy really.

Recently, our Peter went off fishing, again !
This is an annual event with his mates
Up to Frazer Island they go come rain, hail or snow !
This year he took his mate Andrew
Andrew’s a good bloke but easily led astray
He’d heard the stories and wanted to be part of the action
Fishing is the legal excuse they use
It’s a furphy really, ‘cos its all about bonding, beer and bullshit
This is what mates do to escape their dragons back home
Andrew told me he caught a fish, quite a big one too
But he wasn’t supposed to do it, he didn’t know
Hadn’t been properly inducted, catching fish is not the go !
Wattsie sets it up, he’s a man that’s in the know
Trained by the Army to take charge and lead
He’s just the sort of man to head an expedition like this !
This annual trip, its mostly about “secret men’s business”
The sort of stuff that’s shrouded, buried deep in antiquity
Not openly discussed and rarely sees the light of day !
Just like the unions that keep on pushing
Eventually, this jaunt becomes “custom and practice”
God forbid that they bring home an Esky full of fish !
