The weather here is a little unlike Clems sojourn to the old Dart. The air is cooling a little and riding is again a pleasure I wandered around the tourist traps on the Cairns Esplanade, also the scenes of some enjoyable interludes of my youth, but I digress. I remember taking an hour and a half to travel to the sand spit on the point shown in this picture to set illegal nets with my father. A Pope Motor Mower motor bolted onto an outboard leg roaring away. The sea is calm and the tide is in hiding the mudflats and it is a really popular walking and cycling area now.

No pics but I did 400 + klicks last Sunday with a group and the usual suspects ended up doing the extras. We did a loop starting at Yatala BP then heading South via Canungra and down the other side past Hinze Dam and Murwillumbah then off to Kyogle and then back to Beaudesert via the Lions Road then on to Brisbane. We had 3 lengthy stops for the day and I got back as the dark and cold drifted down to road level.
I ate and drank the usual rubbish as you do, the weather was bril. and the company was good. I led the group over the Lions Road and I enjoyed that. You need 100% concentration through the L.R. with many hazards to overcome. The are 7 under rail bridge crossings and many more creek crossing and rattly bridges. There are plenty of switch-backs and bad road surface and blind corners plus narrow road and drop-offs. There is also cattle grids and cow shit. Did I mention the gradients, dips, and crests and the use low gear hills. And of course the fear of meeting a crazy 4x4 swinging a camper van off the back.
But we all got back without incident except for the dubious pleasure of push starting a HD twice.

Nice ride report bloke. Now as far as the pushing the HD goes, are you sure it was not just payback and not really needing pushing

(to push when there was no hill)

It it years since I have done that road, must hop into it another time methinks. Nothing like dollops of cow shit stuck under the mudguards eh! Glad everyone on your ride made it home safely.
