The motorhome has to go and SWMBO will not camp so I am looking at alternatives for me. It will just be an odd overnight at the archery range or up the dam. The cheapest option is sleep in the car, tilt the seat back and put a tape on with plane noise/cattle class. The next is difficult to find in catalogues because they do not know what to call it. It is a banana chair (chair folds out to a bed) and as it does a tent pops up over the top. This is a quick and easy chair-bed-tent option for one. Enter stage right my old kayak camping accessories that had to be light and compact plus any mod cons. Bifold table (luxury item) Cassette stove (luxury item) 1LED light Blue tarp and ropes no pegs or poles. (might be handy) Jaffle iron (tinned food is OK for a couple of days) Saucepan, mug, paper plates and fighting gear. Pepsi Max (tastes OK without refrigeration) Bottle of steam (optional) (steam is room temp fortified wine of choice) Soft drink bottles refilled with water (easier to stash and handle than a big one) Method Set up camp Unpack combo chair bed tent Set up bi-fold table and stove Move to shady area. In storm event retreat to car or wherever. Cost = $300 minus wotcha already got. My mates can take wot they like. What is your shoestring camp?

PS I always wanted to do the great coat and hat camp. You can take anything you like that you can fit in and under the coat. Just like the heroes in medieval stories.
Or of course the Waltzing Matilda camp.

My bare sleeping arrangement these days is a swag. But, the knees are starting to hate bending in the effort to rise during the nite for a leak. I think a folding bed is good as it keeps ya off the ground and as Ding says - After a good nights sleep all other problems are minor and easily overcome.

Interesting subject. I'm still happy sleeping on the ground inside a tent. However, if/when I can no longer ride, I will sleep in a bed in my ute, under the bed having plenty of room for snugly-fitting boxes of clothes, food, cooking stuff, tools etc etc. I'm not fussed about sleeping in a sleeping bag on a tarp on the ground cos last time I did that (on my way home from Bowen), I woke up with a cane toad in my sleeping bag with me. Okay, cane toads are not dangerous to sleep with I think, but what if it had been a bloody snake in there with me? The other reason I like to be inside a tent, is to do with keeping mosquitoes off me.
