A very interesting Discussion Meeting of 4 VERY knowledgeable and scientifically minded Scientists! Charles Darwin did start a PROVEN AND Unchallenged Scientific based Theory that shaped the development of the Life on Earth...as WE know & perceive IT NOW. IT will continue developing AFTER the NEXT Darwinian AND POLITICALLY Correct Futuristic Future!

The preceding ground breaking article ‘Science explores Darwin’ is a great interview. It is a serious contribution towards our meaning of life discussions. Guys’ given the cut and thrust of our past discussions/opinions, one would be well advised to sit down and sensibly listen to this review of Darwin by emanate and recognised scientists of today’s academic world.. Admittedly it may burn a dollar of your valuable data, but if you have held previous unqualified opinions on the origins of the species, the time and effort now will be time and money well spent on your enlightenment . My humble advice would be to listen to these men! it could well be the beginning of a turnaround from those previously held and hitherto undeniable, yet firmly indoctrinated (scientific) truths?
Not only but also... Darwin and his wally theories were never a fact.... Blind Freddie knew that.
So where does this take us.... ?
Stay tuned to the ultimate architect.... and the never ending universal consciousness that is incumbent on such creativity

I tried to watch it twice but they could not keep my attention going. I suspect they are simply saying Darwin's hypothesis does not seem to work for everything. My view is things (experiments) go awry when lab conditions are changed, so that could easily account for the variation in results. For example:- what evolved into deer in Europe and Asia evolved into kangaroos in Australia. The academics need a crutch to help them out of obscurity hence they are having a go at Darwin.

It’s a load of rubbish. It’s old creationist arguments that have been debunked soundly ages ago.
You need to study how Natural Selection works and then you won’t be duped by this kind of nonsense.

They're not academics Col. They're fundamentalists and creationists. Also, all mammals including deer evolved from marsupials. Marsupials were proto mammals. Kangaroos are marsupials. Whales are mammals..The first proto mammal was a cylodont. He was half reptile.

Thanks for the fail Epic. Thats three out of six. A presentation on the ‘Meaning for life’ by using higher mathematics.. strong philosophic rationale, coupled to one of the best the world can offer on computer logic obviously means Jack Shit... I would have thought a earnest/serious/intelligent challenge to the old shaky, shonky, ridiculous beliefs that have occupied the usual droll demeanor’s of 50% of the posters herein would have yielded some reasonable comment/discussion. Well done fellas, I was under the impression we were capable of at least some alert impartiality. ‘A meaning to life’ Strewth, I must have posted to the wrong site, either that or the subject matter has been placed out of order. Maybe a.... intelligent? rendition on trikes, fossils and Muslim mania would fettle the fire. Not only but also... Evolution. FFS... its slow going....for some. Jails are always closed yet full, while temples are always open yet empty. Chinese Proverb Certainly fits this scene. Probably a closeted Natural Selection?

I am ( a bit) sorry about YOUR DISappointment RE the 48% reactions to the content of your posts. I am sure that Tute is aware that the Subjects of Philosophy and Religions have been discussed for (at least!!) 3989 years! The terminology used has changed...but...still the SAME. If WE discussed those Subjects HERE or...WE ignore It/them...NOTHING will change IF WE read IT/THEM or NOT! Have YOU, Tute, ever attempted to read or NOT read a posts? IF you/Pedro or anybody else pretend to be interested...STILL the SAME 3989 years OLD STORY/STATEMENTS!! ( PS. Tute you should try to sign/produce your posts using a different name! Don't be too disappointed, Tute. We all have priorities, and perhaps engaging in discussion on the topic of Darwinian evolutionary theory isn't a high one for now. Chapters 9-11 of Michael Shermer's Why People Believe Weird Things (1997) covers the topic quite well, I think. I haven't read it for probably 12-13 years, so my memory may not be clear. Wikipedia provides a short summary. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Why_People_Believe_Weird_Things

You might be right about dwarfism, Col; I haven't checked. "Speech defect" is a bit subjective. I was once told about a boy whose teachers referred him to a speech therapist. Turns out he had an Irish accent.!!
Much more reported incidence now of asthma, diabetes and autism. Evolution or definition inflation? Medical and psychological conditions expand to meet the needs of those who treat them??

Well... that quickly sums up the guts of it Cster.... at least you took the time to absorb what was being said and where those scientists/academics were coming from. So I suppose two out of six of us that could cotton on as to the odds of what is actually involved in creation. It aint exactly a good look for rest of the team of faithful followers herein, firmly engrossed in believing their ancestors had gills. (not sure about the Italian side ) Old beliefs, like aged customs along with flawed mathematics; can die hard Interestingly I do not recall QM being mentioned within the interview.... but to my mind it would be related to their theories...especially: Quantum entanglement is a physical phenomenon that occurs when pairs or groups of particles are generated, interact, or share spatial proximity in ways such that the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently of the state of the others, even when the particles are separated by a large distance. Sounds to me like everything could be one… Hmmm... heard that before somewhere. So then Darwin would be part responsible for 150 years of a beautiful profound theory, taking us on the wrong trajectory. Maybe we had to go there to pick up the missing bits, after all he did say; 'A man who dares to waste one hour of time has not discovered the value of life. The mystery of the beginning of all things is insoluble by us; and I for one must be content to remain an agnostic. If the misery of the poor be caused not by the laws of nature, but by our institutions, great is our sin.'
Agnosticism to the side, he did at least have some of his philosophy correct. It is the institutionalised dogma that is the enigma of our being

Tute mate,
If you watch the evening news any night of the week then it will be demonstrated without doubt "that there is no caring GOD". And of course the "Which comes first the chicken or the egg" destroys the too complicated so there must be a God.
There is no point in homaging - the most religious (practicsing) places in the world are also the most dangerous.
And the list goes on.

Good Morning... SLEEPING DARWINIANS!! Here is part of a very interesting article written by P.Brennan. I am not sure if it is VERY/PARTIALLY/PROBABLY/MILDLY or NOT INTERESTING! I will read IT…sooner or later!
MadTar, Pedro is 127% sure that you are probably correct on what you wrote on your latest post!! PS. It is NOT compulsory to read or comment on IT!!
+++++++++++++++++ EVOLUTION', Exploring Darwin's Theory By Patricia Brennan September 23, 2001 Richard Hutton takes on the Big Topics. In 1988, he made "The Brain" for PBS and shortly after, "The Mind." Now he offers "Evolution," an eight-hour series airing Monday through Thursday this week at 8 each night on PBS. "One cannot understand the nature of life on Earth unless one understands the theory of evolution," said Hutton. "Science has made tremendous strides since the early 19th century, but we're still grappling with Darwin's theory, and that, by itself, is an important reason to address this topic. By doing so, we hope to not only narrow the gap between science and the public, but also to inspire viewers with the same sense of wonder that motivated Charles Darwin." Hoping to entertain, to inform and to enhance science literacy, the series examines the controversial theory that underlies all life sciences. "Evolution" explores the discoveries that led Darwin to his theory of natural selection; the advances in genetics and molecular biology that have helped confirmed his theory; and evolution's implications for understanding human origins and behavior. "We worked very hard to find the right writers and the right directors," said Hutton. "Our writer was Allan Cubitt, who did 'Prime Suspect II' and 'Anna Karenina.' A year ago last July we were going through ideas for this script and he said, 'I really must tell you I am the kind of person who lives out in the country and identifies each bird and butterfly. I'm a closet Darwinist.' "And then Alastair Reed, the director, who did [the original Masterpiece Theatre] 'Traffic' and [the original] 'Tales of the City,' he said he's a closet Darwinist too." The documentary series gets off to an unusual start by dramatizing the life of Charles Darwin, who altered the scientific landscape 142 years ago by proposing that all life evolved from a single organism over hundreds of millions of years. "There's no drama in any other episode," said Hutton. "We only dramatized Darwin because his story is a story we needed to tell. You have to start with Darwin." Not many people know much about the gentle Englishman who kept secret his theory of evolution, as outlined in his 1859 book "The Origin of the Species," from all but a few friends for 21 years. The two-hour dramatized portion, filmed in Bath, England, features Chris Larkin as Darwin; Jane Cunliffe as his wife, Emma; Mark Tandy as his brother, Erasmus; and Andy Henderson as zoologist Thomas Huxley. "Darwin lived with all of those years with this terrible secret," said Hutton. "His entire [scientific] process during that time was at home. He had a crude light microscope, he had a pair of calipers, he had some dishes that he put plants in, he had a pigeon coop and he had this place in his back yard where he looked at the life cycles of earthworms. "And everything else he did in his head. How do you elicit the incredible rich life of ideas that this guy had if you don't do drama? So we were in a sense forced, by this character whose dramatic life was all in his head, to do drama. The key production is trying to figure out how to link the drama with the documentary so that they work together." Charles Darwin (1809-1882) lived at a time when British explorers were adventuring into many corners of the world and coming home to lavish praise. Darwin himself made a five-year expedition to South America, recording countless observations. In 1840, he published the diary of that trip, "The Voyage of the Beagle." But Victorian society was rigid, and Darwin feared that the proposition he was developing -- his theory of evolution by natural selection, as explained in "The Origin of the Species" -- would be considered dangerous, that it would challenge the social and moral order of his day and of the Anglican Church. He worried that his family, his place in society and his standing in the scientific community might be imperiled. And he was right. Thus, the premiere is called "Darwin's Dangerous Idea," and it interweaves the drama of Darwin's life with current documentary sequences, introducing key concepts of evolution. It examines Darwin's personal torment, including the death of his young daughter, and the influence of evolutionary theory in our lives today. Over the years, as scholars, theologians and scientists have studied and debated Darwin's theory of evolution, people -- Americans as well as British -- have grown angry when they learn that Darwin's theory of evolution, accepted by scientists as the bedrock of biology, does not coincide with their interpretation of the Bible. In 1925, in Dayton, Tenn., William Jennings Bryan, three-time Democratic candidate for president, led a Fundamentalist crusade to banish Darwin's theory of evolution from American classrooms. Clarence Darrow defended high school biology teacher John Scopes, who was charged with illegally teaching the theory of evolution. Of the 15 states with anti-evolution legislation pending in 1925, only Arkansas and Mississippi enacted laws restricting teaching of Darwin's theory. In 1987, in Edwards v. Aguillard, the U.S. Supreme Court invalidated the Louisiana Balanced Treatment of Creation-Science and Evolution-Science Act, which prevented teaching of evolution in public schools unless the course also was accompanied by the teaching of biblical creationism. The court ruled that creationism is a religion and not a science. In August 1999, the Kansas Board of Education voted to delete the teaching of evolution from the state's science curriculum. But last February, after three board members were ousted in the November 2000 elections, the Kansas board voted to restore the theory of evolution to state school standards and allow alternative theories to be taught.

Strewth Col, what are you are on about here. You begin by declaring there is no God and by the end of the second sentence you say there must be a God ? Any clarification of your confusion is not really required, it appears nothing has changed since you openly declared your lack of spiritual comprehension on/within the SOL site a decade or so back. But irrespective of the inherent confusion you may be experiencing between chickens, eggs, evolution and God, I have something for you to ponder Col; just exactly what in your mind (as well as in this society) is going to replace those detestable religions you get so hit up about.
Col, should you accept this challenge you will need to ponder the latter prospect in total, by doing so you will need to remove all Deity related religions from your thesis completely... that being all! holus bolus, zilch, naught, nuffink, and no cheating now. What form will your new society take. Think about it and let me know... I am curious as to what purpose would folk then serve in society and how would you personally serve? Not only but also: be a good chap.. try to leave the ravings of money driven ideologies in the bin where they belong. PS. I can lend you a copy of ‘Das Capital’ should you need BIN confirmation

Now! and finally, someone has said that time is the enemy of competing pre-biotic processes.
Time for a rethink methinks... so suck this and see….
Yep Guys, its another 23 minutes of your valuable data…. But nevertheless highly recommended.
Look at it this way…. You are either going to accept that the world is evolving …. or you are not. Don’t paste any more of that Big Bang evolutionary fossilised crap rules. Unless you are actually prepared to follow it up in total For the record... I certainly do. So get off your fellow fossilised asses and appreciate that life, like understanding (knowledge) moves. Its universal, and believe it or not there was no Big Bang, its God that is Great! Not only but also… and whilst we are still on ceremony…. One does not have to adhere to the word ‘God’ as being the required nomenclature in explaining the universal force behind all life, one is still free to give codification of the said potency to what ever phraseology that may or may not turn your crank. However in the interim ‘God’ is an all embracing and well recognised terminology. You can even be like Col and give reverence to none... but then when circumstance dictate still blame who ever it is that he also says is not, then will also deem the said intimation as being culpable…. And Pedro herein sympathises…. FFS, go figure

I am filling in a bit of tme so I will answer this. Thanks for the "CHEAP SHOTS" TUTE you know very well what my post said, you are being a smart ass. My post was not a "THESIS" (I kept it short and I considered that the average reader had some prior knowledge/common sense) . Did you want me to go on and on about how God botherers say there must be a god because everything is so complicated. DUH, then how complicated must a God be to be a creator of everything and by simple logic that God would need an even smarter God and so on ad infinitum The above is known coloquially as "which comes first; the chicken or the egg", maybe you have heard of that. But in my opinion TRUE believers in guardian angels and Gods are rare because everyone relies on other people (not GODS) to help with food production and shelter and medication and surgery - even the Pope lives in a man made building and wears clothes made by man and was transported in an ambulance to a hospital not to a church. If you are truly interested then you may like to know that one of our posters Clem, (who did decades in the Clergy), and finally got pissed off. put God to the test. God failed his simple but difinitive test without any explanation from God (because Clem thought he could communicate with God - communicating with God was an intrinsic part of Clem's job. So God did not pass Clem's test nor did he supply any explanation God botherers can call their invisible friend "God" but it will not stop them getting cancer or the flue, they can live naked in a cave but God will not bring them food if they are too ill to fetch their own food.
