I took one of the 'Bird's for a test on Monday and was very impressed with the torque and handling, so I ordered one.

Nah, Clem. It is the real deal. Should have it inside of 2 weeks. Gonna miss Bob but I feel it is time to tackle my snoring problem - as some others put it, and buy a new bike. Won't do much for the snoring but ya gotta start sumwhere.

Wow, that's amazing! You will be a non-snoring Trumpy-riding Turtle! It looks one hellova nice bike, Turt, tell us all about it!

I will when I get it, Clem, but I can tell you it is about 15 kg heavier than Bob. It has 30% more torque [factory figures] is responsive, sounds a bit like a muffled fart with the standard pipes and is comfortable though the seat may need changing for long haul riding.

Okay, I got a pic of the shorty pipes after fitting. The bike should be ready for pick-up tomorrow I have been informed. Oops - forgot to mention the sissy bar and rack fitted too.

Well, the time came where I gave Bob a last run before handing him over to his new owner. So, goodbye, Bob and hello Storm. Picked Storm up this arvo and brought her home. She is a smooth bike to ride and has plenty of grunt. So far she is wearing shorty pipes, sissy bar and rack. The saddle bags and bars are on order. Will take her up to Airlie Beach this weekend to show her off.

Took Storm for a ride to work and back today. The foot pegs are in a good location - very comfy. Seat is a bit hard but will see how it goes on a longer run. The bike is smooth to ride and well balanced. Feels responsive but stable. Just waiting for the bars and bags to complete the outfit. Storm at handover yesterday.

Beautiful Turtle, love the wheels short pipe/s, colour, the lot actually.
Yes, not a lot of padding in the seat which provides, of course, for those of us with short legs, to get our boots on the road! Just got to pt up with a bit of a sore bum sometimes eh.

I think the padding can be a bit firm and not as soft as one would like it too, Clem. I am not sure about the seat yet. Need to take it for a long ride and see how it goes.

I noticed some time back that Storm had a dead spot on acceleration not far above idle. Not very handy when going around a round-a-bout and suddenly the engine dies only to kick in again with a bit more throttle. I took her back to redline for an inspection and she was remapped and now problem all fixed. Ya gotta love efi eh what!

I went in to see the blokes and blokettes at Redline and drank some of their coffee this morning. The coffee was not bad either. Anyway, the bars arrived and the mechanic says - nah, they are not going to fit with those risers as the brake line, cables and wiring will be too short. Bummer I say. What about with shorter risers I ask. They may but we will have to wait until ya get the risers before we will say yes, or no. Price for the risers with caps and bolts - $400. So, now I have four options: keep the bars I got on there now; order the risers and hope they fit; order longer cables, wiring and brake line; or see if Burley Bars can make up a custom job that will fit with the standard cables and risers etc. Stay tunes for the next riveting episode.

Yes, it's a tricky situation Turtle. I was at my local dealership the other day to explore ways to raise my bars. I was after either new bars or higher risers for existing (stock) bars. I decided to go with higher risers and ordered them. The mechanic feels that each of the cables will be long enough for higher bars, except for the front brake one. He said there is a local bloke who makes brake cables, so a longer one can be made to suit. I told the mechanic I was very happy with that arrangement, and that if, when installing the new risers, he realises that other longer cables are required, I will be happy to leave the bike with him while these are got and installed. I'm glad the Redline coffee was good!

You make a valid point Eldi and 'keeping original' or 'customising' is not always an easy decision to make. In my case, my back dictates that I sit in a more upright position... and one can't argue with a back! I will discuss this further in the topic about *my* bike rather than take up valuable space in Turtle's bike info topic.

lol. Ya can discuss wot ever ya like here, Clem - and others - I have no drama with it, as long as it is about my bike ok . lol I want the different bars to take the weight off my arms as this makes it more enjoyable when hitting bumps and pot holes on the RS Qld roads.

Took storm in for an 800km service today. All is well and now I can open the throttle up to halfway on occasions. I am getting very fond of the bike as it has more grunt in top gear than Bob, or appears so. May not get the buckhorn bars yet as I am getting used to the riding position. But, with the condition of Qld roads being what they are, the earth shattering jarring that goes up the front forks and then through my arms is taking it's toll.

Well, I don't think the buckhorns will be happening soon. I asked for advice from MCAS in Parramatta about risers to suit and they say they have nuffin. I am not going to spend $400 for the Triumph risers with no guarantee that they will fit for standard cable length etc.

Why do you want to keep your stock cables, Turt?

|
|
Post by Turtle on Nov 20, 2013 19:29:45 GMT 10
The cables with brake hose and wiring alteration could cost anywhere up to $450 bucks. On top of that the risers at $400 plus the bars at $100+ and you will get the idea, Clem. Still if I keep the risers I have than it will still be $550 maybe for the job.

Maybe I should start worrying because I didn't even bother to ask the price of the risers I'm having fitted on Monday! Hopefully I will only need one new cable! All the best with your research and decisions.

Two things I like about the Triumph - it can use 91 octane fuel and the fuel economy is getting better as the engine runs in. At present 19 kpl.

Went into the bike shop yesterday to see if my saddle bags had arrived, but they were either not in the shop or could not be found by the sales rep. So, I will check in on Monday when the bloke who ordered them will be back on deck.
