That's good about your fuel economy Turtle, may I assume 91 is as good as 95 and 98 re performance and workings of engine?
Good luck with locating your saddlebags.

Min octane recommended is 91 but not sure if they are saying 'the minimum is recommended', or they are saying 'the minimum rating that can be used is 91'. The actual wording says - the minimum recommended octane rating is 91.

Mmmmmm interesting to interpret that one, Turtle.
I don't understand the pluses and minuses of the various octanes so I go for 95 cos it's the middle one!
Pretty scientific reasoning yeah? lol

Very good choice, Clem. A safe bet when unsure lol. Here is the basics of octane ratings. The higher the rating the less chance of pre-ignition. Pre-ignition is bad for the motor. The higher the motor compression usually requires a higher octane rating to stop the motor pre-ignition problem. Diesel has a very high octane rating as compared to 91 unleaded because the diesel engine has a high compression.

Arrrrrr errrrr do you happen to know what pre-ignition is Turt?
When I first got my current bike, I was fuelling it at Grafton with 91 and a bloke came over and told me I was the first person he had ever seen filling up his bike with 91.
I said something about does that mean I am the smartest of them all, or should I be using a higher octane?
He told me he knows about octanes and I should use 95 and sometimes 98 cos these make the bike run better and are better for the motor. He told me why but I can't remember what he said. He was a nice bloke.

Pre-ignition is the ignition of the fuel through heat and pressure before the spark fires in the cylinder. Pre-ignition is actually an explosion where fuel that ignites from the spark is burning slower than an explosion. Explosion is bad for the motor, where slow burning is good. There is no valid reason I can see for using a higher octane than is required.

Thanks for the info Turt.
What kind of saddlebags are you getting, floppies or solids?

They are a nice looking bike Turt. You should have heaps of fun on it too. Are you doing another whirlwind run around the country, to run it in?

I run both my car & bike on 98. Even though it is a bit dearer, I get better mileage out of 98, than I do out of the 95 or 91. I refuse to use the E10 crap.

Saddle bags are by K-Drive and are a ridged bag. Thanks, Wanderer. I am happy with it so far . I think there will be a 'thru-the-centre run coming up next year.

The Storm got a wash down last weekend in prep for looking brilliant on my ride to Cairns this coming weekend. Will be the first big-ish ride I have done with it.

Hey, Slick if ya still about tell us about your ride. I had a Harley Street Bob '07 and traded it in for the Storm. I liked the HD but it had a cuppla issues that I was not happy about after several attempts to get fixed.

Well, the ride to Cairns turned into a drive to Cairns. My little mate Princess wanted to see Rubes and Rubes can't go on a bike - yet. Whilst I was up in Cairns I got a call from the bike dealer to tell me my bags have arrived. Pick em up today and a few groceries.

Got the bags home and checked them over. All good by the looks of them. But, the bracket that came with them fits the bike okay though the mounts for the sissy bar/rack will need some mod so the bolt for the bags support can fasten to the bike. Without the sissy bar/ rack the bags fit no drama at all.

How are the saddle bags going Turtle, have you had time to modify and fit?
And do you remain happy (excited even), with your Trumpy purchase?
Oh! And no more of that throttle cut-out now? That sorted?

Bags fitted okay, Clem. The sissy bar frame will need a mod so both it and bags can fit together. Triumph is nice to ride but the lack of accessories would steer me from buying another one.

Arrrrrr the words of a Harley man, accustomed to loads of accessories! lol.
Someone in the world would be making accessories to fit Triumphs wouldn't they Turt?
